If there's a spot in the 4 block where 2 seats on one side are already taken, then taking the aisle on the other end and leaving the fourth seat open is about the best chance you can have of getting an empty seat next to you -- but of course not guaranteed. Whereas if you take an aisle on the outside, the window seat will almost certainly fill.
