I've flown several times to INN plus I have friends who live in Innsbruck who regularly fly back to UK to visit family. Only once have we ever had to abort landing due to crosswinds. This was on Easyjet and the flight took off and went round again and landed 40 mins later. Generally it is fine. but probably less than 5% of flights get diverted to Munich/Salzburg/Zurich/Friedrichshafen. All the BA flights I've taken have managed to land at INN. Lovely airport, fabulous views of the mountains outside. Has a good bakery just beside arrivals and only 15 mins by bus to the city centre.

The Beast from the East scuppered us leaving the UK as planned. EDI-LGW flight cancelled. A call to the BA CS got us to ABZ-LHR-INN so we'd to drive to Aberdeen in drifting snow (mighty wee Ford Ka with winter tyres!). Luckily the in-laws live there so free parking and a lift to the airport.

If flight is diverted for any reason - it depends on which part of Tirol you are headed. If east of Innsbruck then Salzburg is 6 and 1/2 dozen. If Munich - 2.30 hours. The time will depend on whether you are on a package with transfers and the outgoing passengers have to be bussed to the new airport and then to collect the incoming passengers. I've spent 3 seasons as a chalet gal so familiar with how diversions affect things - serving dinner at 1am!!

I'd book a flight to INN any day!
