One way out would be to peg part of those salaries (or all of the pay increase) to the airline profitability (or losses) so to share the profits. (Well, more likely the losses - caused by those continual industrial actions of all sorts).

Unless those unions just don't care about their airline's/employer's sustainability - oh wait!
