The rules on changes to Avios bookings haven't changed recently, whereas SDC is relatively new. What you could have done, for £35 if not GGL or Premier, is switched service before T-24, but not after. Or made another booking if that was a viable use of resources. Within 24 hours the original booking is fairly inflexible.
