Flew Hainan from Wuhai to Hohhot today. 8 hour delay but staff at the new airport handled this well--this was their first experience with such a delay (equipment malfunction).

After about 2 hours and it became clear they couldn't repair it with local parts, they loaded us on to a bus and took us to a hotel where they gave us rooms and dinner. Once a replacement plane arrived from Xian at 11 PM, we took off.

We were kept reasonably well informed along the way. This was a case where airline couldn't have notified pax as malfunction was only discovered 10 minutes before flight time.

Not sure if I should ask for points as compensation but I doubt that I would collect. Might give it a try under the "new" regime.
