Yup... At a couple airports (RDU for one) in the last weeks, they pulled my bag off the conveyor and ran it over to me instead of throwing on the cart. I then got to walk with great DYKWIA-ness past all the other folks wondering why I was so special...
I'll happily feel "special" if it means the difference between making my connection (or having to sprint for it) and being able to walk to it. Getting my bag hand-delivered or out first vs. having to wade through everyone at the cart or wait for the cart to come over has saved connections for me several times, FWIW. I don't give a damn what the other people standing there think, either.
