The Copley garage is underneath/adjacent to the Westin. In fact I would be surprised if that is where your car did not wind up with valet. The difference in price can be attributed to parking the car yourself and having someone else park for you, in addition to the in/out privileges.
As for a hotel outside of downtown....how far outside? Distance would determine if you took subway or commuter rail.
