Yes, fares are higher and the App not the most intuitive or customer friendly. I got caught out taking Grab to BKK from a local address. When I last used uber it cost on average 50 Baht, Grab cost 250 from the same address! I took a local taxi last trip ant that was 79 Baht.

In Singapore I’ve found the prices are 15-40% higher than uber used to be depending on the car selected.
