Alternative to item C - maybe Tenacious Tape? It's nylon tape designed for quick repairs of outdoor gear. I'm currently using a strip of it to fix a long tear my big spinner got in YYZ. It seems like the nylon would feel nicer than packing tape if it touched your skin, and I'm betting it would stick better to the headband material (I've had back luck with packing tape on anything but paper & cardboard).
