We are a family of 4, booked a trip from Australia to Finland in December this year. Our flights are booked through the travel agent (class N economy), and now we would like to upgrade to Class I. I've called Qatar Australia office, and they advised me I can only do any changes/upgrade through our travel agent, as the tickets are issued by travel agent.
So I contacted the travel agent about the upgrade, but the price differential is much greater than I saw online on Qatar website (Qatar has Class I on sale online)
Wonder anyone experience tickets issued by TA can only be change/upgrade by TA, and cannot be done by Qatar reservation office direct?

Yes, this is correct - if you book through a TA then you must route all subsequent queries/changes to the TA.
With regards to upgrading to Business Class you (or the TA) will need to check the fare rules of the Economy ticket you purchased to determine whether QR levies a change fee in the case of an upgrade like this. A quick look at an N class fare SYD/HEL suggests that the change fee should not apply, but the TA will need to check. The TA may also charge a fee. You will need to ask the TA for a breakdown of the cost of the upgrade - eg, new fare, any additional taxes, TA fee, QR fee and then make sure they are offsetting the whole cost of the original ticket.
