Hi there, ShinyO. I'm not sure, but I don't think you can bid for the upgrade until something like a week before the flight when you get the email. Regardless, they're not going to make a decision until somewhere around 24-48 hours before your flight. The idea for the airline is to get something rather than nothing for the premium seats. But they can't sell the premium product too cheap, else it would hurt full-price sales.
