So despite transferring points, the automatic process was not triggered until an actual stay.
I'm guessing a similar cause might be keeping me shown as life time silver even though I'm now at points and nights for lifetime gold. I crossed the points threshold with credit card spend, and haven't spent a night at Marriott since then. Perhaps I need a stay for the system to "catch up."
