If one of your priorities is not being separated, you should stay on the same PNR. If you see I1, you can indeed split to clear if you wish.

The odds of seeing I space on a Friday more than a week or two before departure are poor. It's a heavy day-of-week thing; there's a lot more demand to be leaving on days which are convenient to the work week on each side. The Thursday flight was R5 IN5 I0 for a while and sold pretty fast; it's up to ~20 up front already. Hard to say what the Friday flight holds, but I wouldn't count on anything showing up in advance.

If you have any flexibility, 4 of the 6 Mon-Wed days surrounding have IN space (won't clear if you don't have status, but I would give very good odds in favor): the 29th is R9 IN2 I0, the 31st is R7 IN1 I0, the 5th is R9 IN4 I0, the 6th is R9 IN3 I0.

(Hey, I guess it finally pays to be Plat.)
