1. Look for open J redemption seats (well, “U” seats). If Avios.com doesn’t exist, use ExpertFlyer or even ba.com. Avios.com still exists at time of writing.
2. Check the Ts&Cs.
3. The cash element goes through at the J price, the Avios element goes through at the W price.

You’ll need to book the LATAM flights through BA (or Iberia); LATAM is not a partner of Avios.com.
