I do wonder if the "expensive process and cumbersome in the daily operation" argument would be accepted if the guy hadn't crashed his aircraft into a deserted island, but instead headed for downtown Seattle. Or, isn't commercial aviation today so incredibly safe because we learn from past mistakes and have expensive processes that may be cumbersome in daily operations. That doesn't mean that a key/fingerprint reader is the right solution - but is there something that could be implemented that you think would prevent a copycat from doing the exact same thing tomorrow?
