headband part of Bose headphones wearing out

Perhaps because of oils from the hair, some of the vinyl from the headband is flaking off. This didn't happen in an earlier model of Bose noise cancelling headphones. What should I do?

a. let stuff keep flaking off. there will be polyester cloth underneath.
b. put a thin layer of Elmer's glue which will harden. (I let a spot of Elmer's glue dry as a kid and it becomes almost clear) I think this won't work because a long strip of dried Elmer's would break or crack. Just a circular dot doesn't.
c. put a strip of box tape so that your head/hair now contacts with the smooth side of tape. I think this is the solution.
