My bolding - in my experience with BA and AA, having separate PNR makes all the difference. AA and BA are NOT interested/willing to interline even to their OWN flights if you are on separate PNRs. So I think your concern is justified, especially if this restriction has rolled over into a general OneWorld alliance policy.

I have no personal experience of Qatar or MCT as a departure point - but I am sure someone who does will be along soon. Good luck.
