Some networks don't always open up ALL technologies for roaming. When you say 2G speeds - what do you get on fast.com.
Getting throttled 2G is one thing but their HSPA should be more in the range of 512Kb to 3Mb/sec - a lot of maldives is microwave back haul so don't expect great speeds if in less LOCAL populated areas (e.g. resorts)
