My dad views the IFE as a huge part of the flying experience. He flies a couple of times a year - LH is maybe once every 2-3 years. He really looks forward to the chance to get lost in a couple of films for a few hours, switching off from reality for a while.
If he was offered a LH flight without IFE I doubt he'd take it.
It is a personal issue. Similarly, some people wouldn't be bothered by a chair that doesn't recline as they might not recline it. Some people wouldn't be bothered by alcohol running out, or their first choice meal not being available. It's all about how the service measures up against your expectations.
