I initially thought of booking a preferred seat which costs 120$ extra but then thought of business class upgrade if its little bit more. .

Why would EY do that?
With non USA airlines always expect to travel to the class you buy.
Its only with USA airlines that upgrades are given away, and that is decreasing.
If an exit row, is
preferred seating, $120 for that on a long haul flight is good buying compared to many other airline
Or just get your credit card out and buy for real money a business class seat.
