MCE is not an upgrade so there is nothing to upgrade on your ticket. It is simply a seat selection fee as it will include a bit -- stressing "bit" --- of extra leg room and a drink included. When you do seat selection on the AA website, you will see MCE available for whatever the fee is for the seat you want.
