Your comment is logically flawed. *Somebody* should be allowed to use the overhead bin space. One of the main reasons FC/elite preboarding is a perk is that the airline's best customers can carry-on their single suitcase so they don't have to wait at the baggage claim. If there's no room for the last group(s) of Y passangers to carry-on their luggage, then they should check it.
