Yes, all passengers on the same booking as the MVP have access to preferred seating. I've also had no trouble getting two passengers on a separate booking into preferred seating next to me, though you have to call or Tweet. (The Twitter agents have referred me to the phone agents in some cases.)

MVPs cannot upgrade a companion, even to Premium Class, however.
