However, when I contacted Amazon to find out if they are interested in knowing about this event, they refused to even talk to me, and asked me to deal with Hilton, and not to bother them with this info. I wonder why Amazon had no interest in investigating this. I would think that they can easily trace the offending Amazon account using my Honors account number, and provide the user information to the authorities. Also, Hilton sent me a rather bogus form e-mail letter telling me that they are sorry my account was compromised but they have no reason to believe their system was ever compromised. (???? what does that mean????). When I contacted the fraud department for more information about how my account was "compromised," I was told they cannot tell me how. I'm wondering if companies like Amazon and Hilton has pretty much given up on prosecuting hackers.
Also, I wonder if stealing Honors points by converting to Amazon credit is really "worth it" for the criminals?
How much did the criminal pay for your Honors points? 100% profit, it seems. Even if it’s only $200-400 in Amazon credit.
