I am sure I am not the only unlucky passenger who had to deal with that EXP agent. After I convinced her that it was indeed AA's obligation to re-book me following a cancelation, I had to argue about rebooking options, and after she graciously informed me that they would waive the change fee 'this one time' but would collect any additional fare I decided to hang up. I should have hung up much sooner. I am sorry but that such 'agents' exist only suggests to me that other passengers also suffer the AA 'service.'
