My take is that if you get (at least) 50 nights through meetings this year from the Marriott side, you are set for Platinum Premier in the new world - which gives you lounge, breakfast, etc. Going for 75 nights seems like an overkill, basically.
This thread is from before the new program was in the picture. The goal was to earn at least 75 nights to make Plat. I'm sure some went beyond that, especially when rollover nights were a benefit too.
