Cubes are great when you're on a multi-city trip and can just put them in a hotel drawer or on shelves. Everything stays really organized, is easy to locate, and is "protected" from shelves and drawers that might not be so clean.
They're also great for toiletries, keeping small containers corralled. I put everything away in cubes when I leave a hotel in the AM, that way the maids don't handle my makeup, etc.
That's exactly why I started using cubes. Staying in more than one hotel on a trip without the need to unpack my bag. I grab the bag(s) I need such as toiletry bag, clothes for the next day etc.
