A zillion times lurker, first time poster here - HI!

I'm on SPG Gold and was wondering whether anyone has any tips/advice in getting an upgrade to SPG Platinum. Called the hotline and was advised that if I had proof of a Platinum membership with any hotel loyalty programme ... they might consider giving me SPG Platinum, too. Alas, I don't.

Anyway, if I don't manage to get an upgrade, has anyone gotten a suite upgrade when checking in the Westin Grande Bangkok on SPG Gold?
