Ive found them pretty sturdy. I have had them occasionally get punctured if I pick something sharp. The bigger problem i have is getting the seal good and tight. I've also been surprised what compresses. I usually get about %50 on regular clothes (pants shirts), Socks compress really well, knit polos not so much. But you have to be a little more conscientious about how you pack things otherwise you get these lumps where things don't compress as well.
