I agree. We need more red-eyes out of the US, but, I believe the issue had something to do with landing restrictions in the Tokyo area?
HND is a 24hr airport so I don't know if they have landing restrictions, although I think there're flying zone restrictions during the night till 6am or something. But planes still land there before 6am (such as NH 105). Isn't it more that airlines just don't want to schedule arrivals from like 12a-4a when arriving passengers will be stuck without public transport options?
I love the red-eye to Asia, so does everyone else here, and so do many acquaintances I talk to.
But somehow that doesn't translate to actual usage.
The only red-eye out of SEA that I know of is the EVA (which is a God-send for me), and I really hope they continue it. But that flight has a lot of empty seats many of the times I've flown it. Wonder what the load factor is on that flight.
On the other hand, quite a few red-eyes from YVR. And those seem to do well in terms of load factor, at least based on my limited-data eye test.
