I have a preference for online vendors with no hassle return policies....free shipping is one thing but when items are ordered sight unseen, there is such a risk that it won't be the right thing. So I like ordering from places with brick & mortar stores that do no hassle/no cost returns of online purchases. Like Bed, Bath and Beyond/REI/Penney's/Macy'sHome Depot/ etc.....(And surprisingly, Home Depot does sell some luggage items!!!)
Finally I ended up ordering an international size carryon by TravelPro from Bed Bath and Beyond: Maxlite 4 20 inch rollaboard. In spite of the listed dimensions, it looks hefty enough in the photos that I am not so sure it will conform with the skinny bag requirements of Icelandair & Ryanair. But that is OK. I do have a cheap bag that will work for them, but it won't be my all the time carryon -- it would not hold up! But for most trips I can avoid those carriers if necessary in order to use a more functional bag for the rest of the trip -- which hopefully the TravelPro will prove to be.
The main complaint I saw in the online reviews for this bag is that it tips over easily, but I have that issue with many carryon bags at times, and just have to watch where I put them. We'll see what it's like when it arrives. Maybe I will be sorry I didn't buy the Rick Steves rolling carryon.
