84fiero is correct.

If you’re on a through ticket, request your checked bags be tagged “ITI” (International to International) - the tags used to be yellow. You’ll have to go through Immigration, but won’t have to collect your baggage, take it through customs and recheck - it will be taken to LH airside.

ITI baggage checking requires International to International ticketing (on one itinerary if it involves AA and some others) and is only possible connecting through MIA and DFW.
