Anyway to adjust an AmexTravel booking without cancelling?

So, I took a gamble and lost. I had an offer where if you spent like $600 on AmexTravel before a certain date you got a bonus 10k MR. My travel is for late October and I did my best to hone in my exact dates so I could jump on the AmexTravel offer. The offer has expired and of course now it turns out I have to adjust my hotel dates by ONE DAY. (Check in a day later and stay a day later) I made sure to book a refundable rate via AmexTravel just in case of this issue, however, I'm pretty sure the web site said I needed to cancel and rebook if I needed to make changes. If I do that I'll lose out on the Amex 10k MR offer.

Does anyone have any experience with contacting the hotel directly to change a booking like this? Do they even have that power? I would gladly pay any extra cost either right now on a credit card or when I check out. I just would like to do my best to keep this AmexTravel offer in place but also don't want to pay for a night I'm not going to be there, or worse yet, having the hotel cancel the whole reservation because I don't check in on the night I'm supposed to show up...

Speaking of which, if I CAN'T change this anyway without giving up those MR points, I'm debating if it's worth just making another separate booking for the extra day I need to stay. With plenty of advanced notice will the hotel (Universal Hilton) allow me to keep this reservation and check in a day late as long as I still pay the full stay cost? If I make two separate reservations for the same type of room and going end to end, can Hilton with advance notice link those reservations so I don't have to change rooms mid stay, or check out and check back in? I know this might kill my upgrade possibilities or anything but I wouldn't care at this point.

I actually would also be open to Hilton issuing me a gift card in credit or something if they can adjust the first stay to be a day less (but can't directly refund me) and then suggests I book another night and they can link the reservations. Basically I'm opening to anything you think they can do as long as it isn't cancelling the AmexTravel reservation :P

Also not sure which is better, Amex forum since this is an AmexTravel reservation I have questions about, or the Hilton area since that's the hotel I'll be at...

(Honestly I wouldn't mind paying separate for another night and either getting a refund or Hilton credit for the adjustment on the first reservation since there is currently a 10k MR promo for spending $500+ at Hilton... If I could somehow pick up 20k bonus MR on one single Hilton stay I wouldn't complain :P)
