I’d stick with LAX. On both flights you’ll get two meals, and have a solid block of 6 or so hours to sleep in the bed. There’s nothing else to do outside of eat and sleep. And there’s only so much you can eat and drink (particularly drink). Shlepping all the way to New York probably doesn’t achieve much.
