I don't think it'll be too bad. The Amex Platinum card has been giving SPG Gold to everyone which converted to MR Gold (effectively the new Platinum level) for the past couple years which I'm glad is going away since it devalued the 50 night status. At least this card will have more hoops to jump through.
If you think about it, it's probably a very small selection of people who will have the following:
- $450 annual fee SPG card
- Already not having the 35 nights (plus 15 nights of credit from the card) to qualify for platinum organically
- $75k of spend
