Plenty of routes offer 11-15k mile roundtrips: allows me a lot of weekend getaways. I also love when my baggage is delayed... 2500 miles is basically halfway to a one way award on a lot of routes!
Agree completely, also don’t forget the flexibility it gives you on tickets that otherwise might have a $200 change fee, rendering them effectively unchangeable. SkyMiles has its merits.

But SkyMiles works best if you have another program you collect miles on. Between UA & DL, I am almost always able to get anywhere I need to go.
