Qantas Domestic vs Virgin Australia

Hi all,

I know I am probably asking a biased audience but:

I have my long haul tickets to and from Oz booked but still need one internal flight PER-SYD. I am currently looking at the option and the company travel tool gives Virgin or Qantas as options.

In a nutshell, Virgin is less than half the price (£180 vs £455) for that route and flight times are almost identical. As the flight is under 6 hours I have to fly at the back, so first questions would be around seat space and exit row availability. I am over 1.90cm tall. The fact that the Qantas flight is more than twice as expensive is a concern but not a ruling out factor.

I am a BA Gold (Emerald) and one of the reason I am thinking of taking Qantas over Virgin is that I may get more benefits (upgrades, lounge) flying Qantas. I do not need the tier points or miles from that flight as I retained Emerald months ago and the long haul flights are on a QF ticket so giving plenty of points and miles yet again.

So, based on price this is a no brainer (even if I have to pay A$40 for an exit row seat on Virgin) but I still wanted to ask your views on this and if there is anything that I should really consider that would make Qantas the better option? I do wonder: there must be a pretty large difference in the product if Qantas can charge that much more for the same route and flight times...?

Thanks for your help
