On that note, I wonder whether PIN acceptance at domestic merchants will drop over time. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if offline PIN ends up being deprecated by at least some of the networks and eventually prohibited from being supported at the terminal level in the US. (I'm not sure if that'd ever happen elsewhere.)
But as
D582 mentioned, it's not really whether a merchant supports PIN that controls whether the new PIN gets pushed to the card or not.
