And there's the other part. I totally forgot that other instrument supported upgrades like RPU/GPU were considered equal to miles + copay, and sorted by the status of the redeeming account, where any GS/1K/Plat with an RPU/GPU would be ahead. Sounds like the odds of a miles + copay upgrade clearing is low anyways.

Any upgrade (except OP-UP) unless done for all on the PNR requires a PNR split. You can not change the fare class of one passenger without either changing all or splitting PNR.
Kind of what I figured but I didn't know how SHARES would process it and if T-24 upgrades were different from upgrades outside 24 hours of departure. Appreciate the feedback.
I'll probably wait. Two pax on same PNR have already paid up to Economy Plus (oh how I miss MP Gold/Plat booking access to that) and the other I'd feel bad about leaving in regular UA Y. Especially with the loss of priority security/boarding/baggage allowance.
Here's to praying to a fluke TOD offer, although I doubt it.
