For every person sufficiently scorned by AMEX during the Centurion chase to stop patronizing them, there are likely hundreds still on the chase. The number of ridiculous posts/threads even just on FT about people moving spend that would earn bonus points on other cards to 1X on the Plat just to chase a silly black card is evidence of that. And I'm going to guess that trade-off is perfectly fine with AMEX.
And then there are those that are offered Centurion cards that laugh at Amex for the value proposition. One of my best friends a number of years ago was telling me how Amex tried to get his dad to convert from Platinum to Centurion on a frequent basis and his Dad was like "why would I?" Can't say I blame him as because when they went on vacation they went in paid J/F and did paid FHR stays so it's like why pay extra for nothing. This was a family that knew how to burn money too. At one point his dad got so tired of his wife trying to drive his Maserati Quattroporte so he sold his wife's Mercedes and bought her an virtually identical Maserati in a different color so they could tell them apart.
