A news article in 2010 discussed plans to replace the Moana Surfrider's 10-story Diamond Wing (the rather ugly structure from 1952 adjacent to the Historic Banyan Wing) with a new 26-story tower.

Of course, the 26-story tower never happened. But it makes sense that the site of the Diamond Wing could be used more intensively, and thus more profitably.
