AA and DL have tried it before, and it didn’t work. The Los Angeles - Tokyo route is has too much competition.
I believe that US airlines won’t go for it because not that many of their patrons (who would actually chose the US airline over ANA) are that workaholic!
Most want to sleep first before reporting to the office next morning.
JAL already has slot allocation restrictions due to the bankruptcy a couple of years ago. It uses its HND slots for other markets and can’t get more.
