We rented a car from Hertz recently in San Francisco. The car was parked on the street and someone broke the rear driver side window. We had some things in the trunk, and the perpetrator accesssed the rear by folding down the rear seat. Not a huge loss but enough to hurt.
The reason for my post, is the car had a large sticker on the front windshield advertising PlatePass which identified the car as a rental. I was under the impression that rental car companies had moved away from identifying cars as rentals to prevent crimes against renters.
We did not pay for the Hertz insurance. We did report the loss to the credit card company for the new items purchased, but they will not cover items lost in a car theft. We have not yet reached out to our car insurance company?
Are we liable for the damage? Does Hertz have liability since the car had the PlatePass sticker? Thanks for the advice.
