If those are oneworld flights, that is AA and/or JAL, on the same ticket/PNR and the arriving international flight is late, an agent will meet the flight to distribute bright orange "Express connection" cards to passengers with tight connections.

These help connecting passengers speed through the immigration and customs inspections, allow them to use a dedicated lane at the exit from the customs hall and provides priority access to the TSA security checkpoint when reentering the secured area of the airport.
