Timbers Kauai Ocean Club | a new top option on Kauai

Timbers is a 10 minute drive south of the Lihue airport, a 30 minute drive from the Grand Hyatt on Poipu Beach, a 60 minute drive from St. Regis Princeville.

It's rare that I get this excited from a webinar ... but I just attended a webinar for a brand new resort on the Hawaiian island of Kauai — Timbers Kauai Ocean Club. The property has been open one month — too soon for it to have completed the process of Virtuoso membership — but I assume that will be on the way. Here are the takeaways:

Timbers is an all-residence resort with just 47 residences varying in size from 2BR, 3BR, and 4BR; most are 2BR. It's located on the south (dry) side of Kauai, 10 minutes from the airport. The hard product looks beautiful. The resort is right on a Jack Nicklaus designed Ocean Course and a 2-3 minute golf cart ride (golf cart transport available on demand) to Kalapaki Beach which it shares with the Marriott.

Amenities include:
  • free private round-trip airport transfers
  • Full Breakfast daily
  • complimentary Kids Club
  • no resort fees
Though not (yet) Virtuoso, I imagine your Virtuoso travel advisor could negotiate for an upgrade. There's also a 4th Night Free promotion active until Festive Season... and Timbers does have availability over the Christmas-New Years time frame.

Residences feature 2, 3, or 4 bedrooms. Living rooms are all equipped with sofa beds. You'll have a full kitchen, and some residences even have a built-in outdoor gas grill.

There is a Hertz desk at the resort, so guests can take advantage of the free airport transfers and rent a car when they want to explore Kauai. You really should have a rental car on Kauai, as there's so much to explore on this scenic island.

I'll try to do a site inspection trip this fall ... but wanted to pass along what looks like a great possibility for a family vacation to Kauai.
