I called Delta to have myself downgraded after an unwanted upgrade to a middle C+ seat, and the agent told me she would update something in the system so that I would only be automatically upgraded to window or aisle C+ seats from then on. I have not had enough flights since then to say if this actually worked, but you might be able to call and request this as well.
