Can you just have emoyer change the ticket and offer to pay fare difference for new date? Certainly less than purchasing a one way ticket. Company would be out nothing. Pethaps you may only need to pay change fee if any.

If there is availability in your fare bucket or you could even save the company money if the fare is less on the day you wish to return.
