Thanks ElJudioErrante, that's a really good idea actually, the taxes starting in DXB are horrendous.
....as are many of the published EK fares ex DXB especially long haul. Skywards rewards/published (or consolidated fares) ex HKG long haul ie not just to BKK are cheaper (in miles/$) to some dests beyond DXB so that's worth taking into account.
HK law prohibits exorbitant "taxes" on flight tickets starting HKG,so good start point for awards if you can do that.
