Not a great impression so far. First time at this property, stayed most of the SPGs and Marriotts in Vancouver. I'm platinum.
Waited at the check-in desk in the spg elite line while agent wrote arrival cards for other guests instead of calling us over or acknowledging we were waiting. Eventually we got her attention and she checked us in. Everything was normal during check-in except we were upgraded to South Tower so we had to trek over to the south tower (nobody offered to assist with luggage).
Once we made it to the room the door key did not work. Housekeeping was working nearby and asked us what we were doing. We explained we were trying to get into the room and she said we were mistaken, that room is occupied. After showing her the key card holder with the room number, she told us there was a mistake and to go back to lobby. (Feel bad for the occupant of the room who might have been frightened)
At lobby the front office assistant manager discovered that the check-in agent just miswrote our room number. No apology. I explained it was embarassing to me, my SO, and no doubt for the occupant of the room. He offered a $50 dining credit.
I went to the room, which was a bit smaller than a traditional "junior suite". We hung out a bit in the room and lounge then returned to the room to find the welcome amenity that I picked was not delivered. I went back to the front desk and again no apology, but they promised to follow up on it. It was delivered eventually afterwards.
Relative to the competition in the city (Marriott, SPG, and other brands) my first impression is very poor.
