i beg to differ on the resentment. within the "flexible" ticket category the connecting segments may not neccesarily be fully flexible... connecting itinery like yours it would be fair to assume that most significant component of the fare, in your case being MEL-LAX-BNE transpacific 2 sectors would be the "flexible" component under fare rules, and the add on which probably almost cost nothing is discounted.
If you truly wanted a "full fare Y" fully flexible fare, the BNE-MEL as well as LAX-LAS-LAX 3 segments will be astronomically expensive you wouldn't be buying anyways.
i would think your 3 segments combined with fully flexible transpacific route, the ticket rule allows "flexibility" but not neccesarily does it say points/SC belong to those of fully flexible... I agree the better way QF can manage is display fare-class prior to purchase, instead of post ticketing... or, in your case when u issued the ticket you could have double checked the fare codes and realized they won't earn fully flexible - you can always call back to cancel i believe if you called them back immediately.
